Call for WA Fracking Inquiry to release a draft report for public comment

Call to make WA Fracking Inquiry more open & transparent as inquiry announces closed meetings

MONDAY January 22, 2018: Lock the Gate Alliance has called out   the  WA Fracking Inquiry’s plan to close its public meetings to the public and allow only a limited number of registered attendees to make short presentations in round table groups led by a single panel member. A spokesperson for Lock the Gate in WA Jane Hammond said the inquiry panel had today announced that it would hold just five half-day meetings with the public and would not allow these meetings to be recorded. Call to protect Yalgorup National Park from gasfield development as Government expands park

FRIDAY, JANUARY 12, 2018: Peel residents have welcomed the State Government’s plans to expand the Yalgorup National Park but say its value as a conservation area is being compromised by a gas exploration lease covering the area. Local resident and spokesperson for Gasfield Free Peel Barb Brewerton said the government had acknowledged the internationally recognised biodiversity value of the park and surrounding area by agreeing to expand it yet it appeared to have turned a blind eye to the threat of gas mining hanging over the park. Media Release 22 December 2017 - Mineral Resources must rule out tight gas at Waitsia The community close to the Waitsia gas project in the Mid West have reacted to the takeover bid of AWE by Mineral Resources with a call to rule out tight gas development and fracking in the area. While the Waitsia project just east of Dongara might be predominantly conventional gas, there is tight gas that could be developed with risky techniques in future. Landholders cautiously welcome fracking bans as moratorium extended to 2020

FRIDAY DECEMBER 8, 2017: The Gasfield Free South West Alliance has welcomed the government’s formal gazettal of fracking bans covering the South West, Peel and Metro areas today but says it would still like the bans to be protected by a specific Act of parliament. Call for fracking inquiry to expand its scope & public hearings as submissions open

Public meeting calls for the South West to be declared Gasfield Free

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2017: More than 100 people turned out in Dardanup last night (Tuesday November 21) to call for an end to plans to develop gasfields in the South West of WA. The meeting organised by the Gasfield Free South West Alliance and Lock the Gate followed the granting of a new gas lease last month, covering more than 660sqkm of the Bunbury area, to Sydney based company Bunbury Energy. Hundreds call on WA Parliament to broaden Fracking Inquiry

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2017: A formal petition calling for a broadening of the scope of the WA fracking inquiry, signed by more than 650 people, will be tabled in the WA State Parliament today.
