Landholders cautiously welcome fracking bans as moratorium extended to 2020

FRIDAY DECEMBER 8, 2017: The Gasfield Free South West Alliance has welcomed the government’s formal gazettal of fracking bans covering the South West, Peel and Metro areas today but says it would still like the bans to be protected by a specific Act of parliament.

Spokesperson for the GFFSWA Kathy Thomson said the gazettal was a positive step in the right direction and gave the community a degree of security.

Call for fracking inquiry to expand its scope & public hearings as submissions open

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2017: Landholders and communities from across WA have welcomed the opening today of public submissions to the WA Fracking Inquiry but say the scope of the inquiry is still too limited and the number of public hearings remains inadequate.

Dandaragan famer David Cook has called for the panel to visit his region and hear from the people whose lives will be directly impacted by the fracking industry.

Public meeting calls for the South West to be declared Gasfield Free

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2017: More than 100 people turned out in Dardanup last night (Tuesday November 21) to call for an end to plans to develop gasfields in the South West of WA.

The meeting organised by the Gasfield Free South West Alliance and Lock the Gate followed the granting of a new gas lease last month, covering more than 660sqkm of the Bunbury area, to Sydney based company Bunbury Energy.

Community Town Hall Meeting to keep the South west Gasfield Free

 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10: Landholders and other residents from across the South West will attend a landmark public meeting in Dardanup next week (November 21) to discuss opposition to a new gas exploration lease covering the region.

The Community Town Hall Public Meeting will take place on Tuesday November 21 at 6pm in the Dardanup Sporting & Community Centre on Ferguson Road. It is being organised by the Gasfield Free South West Alliance (GFFSWA) and Lock the Gate.

Hundreds call on WA Parliament to broaden Fracking Inquiry

Collecting petitions to broaden the scope of the Fracking InquiryTUESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2017: A formal petition calling for a broadening of the scope of the WA fracking inquiry, signed by more than 650 people, will be tabled in the WA State Parliament today.

The tabling coincides with an announcement by the inquiry indicating that it has already decided what it will examine and when.

Transnational gas pipeline could commit WA to a future based on risky fracking

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2017: Lock the Gate Alliance has slammed a renewed push by the Federal Government to pipe gas from Western Australia to feed the east coast market. 

A spokesperson for Lock the Gate in WA, Jane Hammond, said the Federal Government was trying to bully WA into dropping its current fracking moratorium.

March & Rally in Bunbury to take a Gasfield Free message to Regional Cabinet Meeting

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2017: Landholders, communities and individuals from across the south west will be rallying outside the Regional Cabinet’s Public Meeting in Bunbury next Sunday to send a clear message to the Premier that they want to remain gasfield free.

The rally and march on Sunday November 5 at 2pm in Bunbury is in response to the granting of a new gas exploration permit covering the shires of Capel, Dardanup, Donnybrook-Balingup and parts of the cities of Busselton and Bunbury.

Anger at granting of new gas permit covering the south west

THURSDAY OCTOBER 19, 2017: Communities in the south west have reacted with shock and anger at news that Bunbury Energy has been granted a new gas exploration permit. The permit covers the shires of Capel, Dardanup and Donnybrook-Balingup and parts of the City of Bunbury and City of Busselton.

 Co-convenor of the Gasfield Free South West Alliance, Boyanup landholder, Kathy Thomson said the granting of the permit was a kick in the guts to the people of the south west.

Renewed calls for a broadening of the WA fracking inquiry as panel announced

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2017: Lock the Gate has welcomed today’s announcement of a panel for the WA fracking inquiry but says the terms of reference still need to be broadened to ensure all impacts of the industry are examined.

A spokesperson for Lock the Gate in WA Jane Hammond said it was vital that the terms of reference look at the socio-economic impacts of fracking as well as the impact on water, health, land, livelihood, communities, air quality, climate and existing industries.

Battle against invasive gasfields in the Peel region far from over

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2017: A large swath of the Peel region remains covered by gas leases despite a promise by the state government to ban fracking in the area.

A free film and information night to discuss the issue is being organised for Wednesday October 11 at the Bortolo Pavillion in Greenfields starting at 6.15pm.
