The WA Government has set its sights on the state environmental watchdog, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) - proposing extensive changes to its operations.
Under pressure from the gas industry, they have proposed removing public appeal rights for enviro decisions, letting gas industry heads onto the board of the EPA, and giving the minister of the day powers to direct the EPA to rush the assessment of ‘priority projects’.
If the gas industry gets its way, our environmental laws will be weakened and the EPA’s independence will be fraught - this could easily pave the way for fracking in the Kimberley.
Can you email the Premier and Environment Minister today and urge them to reconsider changes to the EPA and strengthen WA nature laws?
