The Australian Government has announced plans to hand over millions of taxpayer dollars to the gas industry for big new fracking gas pipelines and gas infrastructure, and has named the Mid West and Wheatbelt as one of the first strategic areas. This commitment follows relentless pressure from the National Covid Commission and their fossil fuel industry members. And there could be much more to come.
Our Federal decision makers need to hear from us in WA on this. We can’t have them getting all their advice from the gas industry, and miss out on hearing your voice.
Tips: When you call, remember to be polite, friendly and calm. You will probably speak to a staffer, so just ask them to take down your message.
Ideas for Talking Points: Introduce yourself and mention you live in your MP's electorate.
- I’m concerned the Federal Government is giving handouts of taxpayer money to the gas fracking industry.
- Gas is a bad investment. Our money shouldn’t prop up the gas fracking industry. It puts farmers, regional communities and Traditional owners directly at risk.
-The Australian public should NOT be paying for gas industry pipelines like a West-East pipeline, other infrastructure or buying gas directly from new fracking gasfields.
- We can create more jobs and opportunities if we support manufacturing and agribusiness to electrify and use plentiful renewable energy.
- The Government could help homes and small businesses install renewables, get energy efficient, and invest in storage. We don’t need more gas and fracking gasfields.
When you’ve made the call, you could also pop these points into a follow up email to your MP.

Thanks for reminding our government to represent all of our interests, not just the gas industry.
