As pressure grows on the Albanese Government to protect water from fracking in WA and the NT, Sophie Scamps and the Greens have introduced bills to fast-track the water trigger in the House and Senate before the end of the year.
These bills will mean new fracking projects will have to be assessed under the EPBC Act for their impacts on water quality.
Labor has the power to pass stronger water protection now, but they’ll only do it with enough support on the ground in key electorates like Fremantle.
You're invited to join Frack Free Kimberley campaigners, 350 Australia and Lock the Gate Alliance at the entrance to Manning Arcade (135 High Street Mall Fremantle) from 12 noon to 1pm on Wed 8 Nov to:
🤝 Gather postcard signatures from members of the public
🤠 Participate in a tug-o-war between 'Texan frackers' and West Australians
📜 Deliver our joint petition to Josh Wilson MP's office
As our Federal MPs consider their next move, it’s critical to demonstrate loud and clear that water is for drinking, not drilling. That’s why, as urgency builds inside parliament, we’ll turn up the heat outside – by delivering a huge joint petition to Josh Wilson MP.
Traditional Owners have not given consent to frack the Canning or Beetaloo Basins, which could contaminate drinking water with a poisonous cocktail of chemicals and release over a billion tonnes of climate pollution.
But people power has won before and it can win again – if enough of us raise our voices together. Now’s our chance to tip the scales in our favour.
We would love to see you there! Please RSVP below to help with planning purposes, and spread the word! Facebook event here.
