Hundreds call on WA Parliament to broaden Fracking Inquiry

Collecting petitions to broaden the scope of the Fracking InquiryTUESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2017: A formal petition calling for a broadening of the scope of the WA fracking inquiry, signed by more than 650 people, will be tabled in the WA State Parliament today.

The tabling coincides with an announcement by the inquiry indicating that it has already decided what it will examine and when.

Transnational gas pipeline could commit WA to a future based on risky fracking

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2017: Lock the Gate Alliance has slammed a renewed push by the Federal Government to pipe gas from Western Australia to feed the east coast market. 

A spokesperson for Lock the Gate in WA, Jane Hammond, said the Federal Government was trying to bully WA into dropping its current fracking moratorium.

March & Rally in Bunbury to take a Gasfield Free message to Regional Cabinet Meeting

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2017: Landholders, communities and individuals from across the south west will be rallying outside the Regional Cabinet’s Public Meeting in Bunbury next Sunday to send a clear message to the Premier that they want to remain gasfield free.

The rally and march on Sunday November 5 at 2pm in Bunbury is in response to the granting of a new gas exploration permit covering the shires of Capel, Dardanup, Donnybrook-Balingup and parts of the cities of Busselton and Bunbury.

Anger at granting of new gas permit covering the south west

THURSDAY OCTOBER 19, 2017: Communities in the south west have reacted with shock and anger at news that Bunbury Energy has been granted a new gas exploration permit. The permit covers the shires of Capel, Dardanup and Donnybrook-Balingup and parts of the City of Bunbury and City of Busselton.

 Co-convenor of the Gasfield Free South West Alliance, Boyanup landholder, Kathy Thomson said the granting of the permit was a kick in the guts to the people of the south west.

Renewed calls for a broadening of the WA fracking inquiry as panel announced

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2017: Lock the Gate has welcomed today’s announcement of a panel for the WA fracking inquiry but says the terms of reference still need to be broadened to ensure all impacts of the industry are examined.

A spokesperson for Lock the Gate in WA Jane Hammond said it was vital that the terms of reference look at the socio-economic impacts of fracking as well as the impact on water, health, land, livelihood, communities, air quality, climate and existing industries.

Battle against invasive gasfields in the Peel region far from over

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2017: A large swath of the Peel region remains covered by gas leases despite a promise by the state government to ban fracking in the area.

A free film and information night to discuss the issue is being organised for Wednesday October 11 at the Bortolo Pavillion in Greenfields starting at 6.15pm.

Landholders welcome fracking inquiry but say it’s not enough

TUESDAY, September 5, 2017: Landholders across the state have welcomed today’s long-awaited announcement of an inquiry into the fracking industry in WA but say it doesn't go far enough.

Co-convenor of the Gasfield Free South West Alliance Kathy Thomson said her group welcomed the announcement for an inquiry but wanted to see more detail.

Frack Free People’s Rally to send a message to the State Labor Conference this Saturday

 FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 2017: Landholders and other concerned citizens will be rallying outside the State Labor Party conference this weekend calling for action to halt fracking and other forms of invasive gasfield development in WA.

As part of the event farmers from the South West, Peel, Swan Valley and Chittering will be bringing along fresh produce to show what WA stands to lose if the unconventional gas industry is allowed to go ahead.

The rally will take place at 8.15am Crown Casino, Perth Saturday August 26.

SW Labor MP Mick Murray will accept fresh produce from the farmers at 10am.

Country Women in WA say No to fracking and unconventional gasfields

The Country Women’s Association of WA has today called for an end to fracking and unconventional gasfields in WA.

The call came in the form of a motion put to the organisation’s state conference in Fremantle this morning from the Capel branch and follows a similar ban on any future unconventional gas exploration passed by the NSW branch of the CWA in May this year.

“Relaxed” Stance on ‘Fracking For GST’ Deal Needs Clarification from Premier

Rod-Annette.pngDongara farmer Rod Copeland has asked Premier McGowan to clarify his stance on any deals on fracking in GST discussions, after Treasurer Ben Wyatt said he was “relaxed” about Scott Morrison’s threat to cut GST to states unless they accept unconventional gas exploration.

“I’m calling on the Premier to clarify his position, and rule out a link between GST and unconventional gasfields, instead of leaving communities like mine in limbo as we face the risks to our water, land and health from this invasive industry,” said Mr Copeland.
